Introduction to Crystal Kingdom

My story began when I went to a crystal store in my home town Vilnius, Lithuania, to choose a stone that could help me to heal my heart and bring me love (that’s what I thought I needed at that time). I felt so much energy in the store and spent 3 hours there, which seemed like 30 minutes at most. I knew nothing about them, but I just had a feeling that it was time to get one of those amazing crystals, as I heard people saying they ‘worked well’ and were pretty powerful. That day, I left with gorgeous rose quartz in my hands. After a while I could feel that the crystal had helped me to heal my heart, and more importantly, along the way I learnt that it is all about building relationships with crystals – that is what makes a big difference. It’s not about ownership; it’s about building and committing to a relationship. Indeed, I asked the crystal to help me, I set the intention, and in exchange I had to cleanse and charge it on a regular basis, I needed to look after and treat my crystal well in order for it to work effectively. I also learnt that they come and go – for instance, some time ago a friend needed it more than I did, so the crystal went to her. She felt so connected to it, and at the same time, I was satisfied that it had helped me enough, and that it was therefore time to let go.

I did collect more crystals, some of which came as gifts, with the latest coming as beautiful gift from a dear friend – a moon goddess necklace with Moldavite.

Moldavite was formed when a giant meteorite hit the earth. It is increasingly expensive, and hard to come by, since supplies of it will eventually run out. Moldavite is an extremely powerful gemstone, that helps us to communicate with our higher selves, and it’s great for those who are on any sort of transition in their lives.

Now, a bit more about crystals, and some things I learnt…

What are crystals and where can we find them?

Crystals are living organisms, which absorb and transmit energy, therefore cleansing is extremely important.

They uplift the heart and they are amazing helpers and do magic, if we know enough about how to work with them.

The more we understand about crystals, the more effective they are. It’s a relationship, where both (crystal and person) need to contribute and play their parts. We need to look after them.  Often you will hear expression ‘work with crystals’.

You can find them in crystal shops, spiritual stores, online, and (depending where you are) local markets.

What do we do with crystals?

  • Wear them as a jewellery
  • Keep in our house/work etc. as a decoration that serves a purpose
  • Healing
  • Charging water (clear quartz is perfect, not all the crystals can be used for this)
  • Energy work and rituals

How to choose your crystal / crystals?

Everyone will tell you that the best way is to get the one you are most drawn to, and to ignore recommendations from your peers or suggestions listed in guide books. Listen to your gut feeling. Then, after holding your chosen crystal in your hands for some time, read about what it can do for you, and how you can take care of it.

If you are looking for a crystal to help you in a specific situation, for example, to support aura to build protection, to help particular organs in your body or to target different chakras, to work in conjunction with your birth stone, and more, then you can look up your options in a Crystal book (there are always few to choose from). You can then check again with your intuition, picking the one that you feel attracts you or that is calling you.

If it happens that you just can’t choose, or that you feel overwhelmed and you can’t find one that really gets your attention, then relax and come back another day.  Maybe there is a good reason you didn’t buy any that day, or perhaps it’s just not the right time yet.

How to cleanse and charge crystals?

Once you have purchased or have been given a crystal, the first thing you want to do is to cleanse it. We don’t know who touched that crystal, in what environment it stayed, or what energies it collected, so before we work with them we need to make sure that they are back to their purest form. You can put most crystals in water with sea salt overnight, or leave them under running water for a good while, but each crystal likes things a different way so it’s a good idea to check before doing anything, as some don’t like salt. Smudging is another good way that works every time – burn leaves of sage or saint wood and pass your crystal through the smoke.

After cleansing, charge your crystal in sunshine or moonlight (solstice and equinox are very powerful periods for charging crystals). Finally, set the intention and affirmation, ideally while having a meditation session (think of what you want your crystal to serve you for, or to help you with).

You can also look up crystal programming techniques.

One of the books I found very useful: The Crystal Bible by Judy Hall.

There are also some useful videos giving introductions to each crystal, and more.
