Top tips for seasonal immune support

I am a qualified Nutritional Therapist, herbalist and naturopath, and 2 years ago started working with the mind-blowing doTERRA essential oils because, of their ethics, purity, environmental and social contributions and  well- THEY WORK!

When I first got to the UK I have fell in love with the Autumn as it’s one of the most beautiful seasons of the year. I never seen such colors in my home country, and the smells! Oh my god the smells of bonfires and rain brings back a lot of happy memories, that is, if you are lucky enough to be able to smell! Normally this is the season of blocked noses, snotty children, people sneezing and coughing all around you and it seems as if staying at home is the best strategy to maintain health and avoid any contaminations and unwanted bugs.

But what if I told you, that you can keep your immune system strong by applying few simple habits to your daily routine?

So here are my TOP 5 TIPS and Essential oils for keeping a healthy immune function during cold seasons:

1.Keep hydrated! It is so easy to get dehydrated at winter time as we are often to cold to feel the thirst and tend to confuse thirst for hunger- ending up eating unnecessary foods.

Why is it so good?

Water Flushes Out Toxins and Removes Waste- Staying hydrated allows the kidneys to flush out toxins and the digestive tract to remove waste from your body, it is vital to every single function in our body.  One tell-tale sign you are not staying hydrated is constipation, headaches  and this means there is a build up of toxins in the body weakening the immune system.

What oil can I add?

Lemon:  I LOVE adding 1-3 drops of lemon essential oil to my morning routine. Lemon oil has a variety of uses and benefits. With a clean, fresh, citrus aroma, Lemon is known for its purifying properties. Often used in cleaning products and air purifiers, Lemon has distinct cleansing and deodorizing characteristics that make it a popular choice for cleaning surfaces and purifying the air. As a versatile oil, Lemon also has the ability to aid in digestion and support healthy respiratory function when taken internally.* Whether it is being diffused, taken internally, or applied topically, Lemon essential oil offers a variety of benefits.

2.Bone broths/Veggie Broths – one of my favorite food is chicken broth. Although my husband doesn’t seems to share this love of mine.  There is nothing that makes me happier on a cold winter evening than coming back home to a hot, rich delicious bowl of steaming chicken broth full of root vegetables, organic chicken, loads of herbs and of-course, few drops of black pepper essential oil .

Why is it so good?

Bone broth  is excellent for speeding healing and recuperation from illness. You’ve undoubtedly heard the old adage that chicken soup is the Jewish penicillin- and will help cure a cold. That is much because of the nutritional intake in bone broth which are found in a form the body can absorb easily—not just calcium but also magnesium, phosphorus, silicon, sulfur and trace minerals. It contains the broken down material from cartilage and tendons–stuff like chondroitin sulphates and glucosamine, now sold as expensive supplements for arthritis and joint pain. Chicken contains a natural amino acid called cysteine, which can thin the mucus in your lungs and make it less sticky so you can expel it more easily. Of- course if you prefer to avoid any animal products, a homemade soup full of vegetables, roots and herbs will do wonders as well.

For best results, you really need to make up a fresh batch yourself (or ask a friend or family member to do so) shop both and process versions won’t work the same. If combating a cold, make the soup hot and spicy with plenty of pepper. The spices will trigger a sudden release of watery fluids in your mouth, throat, and lungs, which will help thin down the respiratory mucus so it’s easier to expel.

What oil can I add?

Black pepper:   I always cook my chicken broth with LOADS of black pepper seeds, but lately upgrades my methods by adding 1 drop of essential oil into the soup, just as i finish making it. Bare in mind- this is some hot stuff! Make sure to mix it right at the end otherwise it will al evaporate and also to have enough fat to disperse the oil around the soup. If you are making a vegetable soup, try to mix it first with a bit of olive oil then pour in the soup at the end.

Because of Black Pepper’s powerful chemical components, this essential oil is much more than just a handy spice in the kitchen. Black Pepper essential oil is high in monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes, which are natural chemicals known for their antioxidant activity and their ability to support the immune system when needed most.* When Black Pepper essential oil is orally ingested, a sesquiterpene called caryophyllene helps the body support healthy cell function.* Internal use of Black Pepper essential oil can also promote healthy circulation,* but when used topically, it should be applied with caution due to its powerful warming sensation. Black Pepper essential oil is a diverse oil that provides many physically and mentally stimulating properties essential to promoting human health.

  1. Don’t forget to sleep! I never really had any trouble sleeping. I fall asleep super fast and have good quality sleep throughout the night. I wake up energized and ready to start the day! Unfortunately that is not the case for so many people that lacking few more hours of sleep each night due to health issues or purely due to lifestyle.

Why is it so good?

 Having a good night sleep is vital as most of the repairing mechanism occur during the night. Not getting enough sleep has been linked to a variety of mental and physical health problems, including those that stem from an impaired immune system. The relationship between lack of sleep and our immune systems is not quite straight forward, however, the immune system is pretty complex. It is made up of several types of cells and proteins that are charged with keeping foreign invaders such as colds or flu at bay.

 What oil can I use?

I Absolutely love the Serenity- restful blend: A combination of Lavender Flower, Cedarwood, Ho Wood Leaf, Ylang Ylang Flower, Marjoram Leaf, Roman Chamomile Flower, Vetiver Root, Vanilla Bean Absolute, Hawaiian Sandalwood, which  has a calming and relaxing aroma that provides a unique experience. This perfectly balanced, tranquil blend can be felt immediately, transporting the user to a state of blissful repose. The oils in this blend are renowned for their ability to lessen feelings of tension and calm emotions, and support a restful sleep when used aromatically.  Just apply couple of drops in a diffuser, a bath or a pillowcase for a restful sleep.

4.Protect yourself- As we go through our days in public transport, office, shops schools, nurseries  and even in our own home  we are exposed to not only environmental threats, bugs and baddies, we are also exposed to people’s energies.

Protecting a strong immune system is as important as protecting strong emotional world and energy. One of the most important things one can do is setting boundaries both physical and emotional, keeping work-life balance and know your feelings are important.

What oil can I use?

 On guard immunity blend: I absolutely LOVE everything about this oil. It’s amazing Christmassy scent of Wild Orange Peel, Clove Bud, Cinnamon Bark/Leaf, Eucalyptus Leaf, and Rosemary Leaf/Flower essential oils and its protective qualities! Moreover, on-guard is known for protecting us from the influences of people’s negative energy. My routine involves applying a drop on my feet every morning and diffusing 2-3 drops while I am at home.   1. Eat a Rainbow- I love vegetables, a day without veggies makes me feel unwell! When my husband and I travelled to south America, we were in a situation we ate very limited variety of veggies, which made us both feel unwell. Both physically and emotionally. We have found ourselves craving green and orange veggies! My husband was shocked as he always thought he could live of cookies and steaks! It was a great proof to him to the importance of eating a rainbow every day!

Why is it so good?

Vegetables are the best source of nutrients in our diets. Scientists now know that many of the naturally occurring chemicals (phytochemicals) responsible for giving fruit and veg their bright colours actually help keep us healthy and free from disease. Fruit and vegetables contain hundreds of colourful phytochemicals that act as antioxidants, which help to ‘mop up’ potentially harmful molecules called free radicals before they get a chance to damage cells.

As a result, antioxidant-rich fruit and vegetables can help to protect against a whole host of problems, including heart disease, cancer, cataracts and even premature ageing.
